The aim of the course is to give an introduction and an insight into the time tested Indian traditional ancient system of medicine - Ayurveda.

  1. Ayurveda - definition - branches of Ayurveda.
  2. History of Ayurveda.
  3. Defition of health.
  4. Basic principles - Panchabhuta theory (five basic elements) creation theory leading to tridosha concept.
    1. Tridosha -vata-pitha and kapha.
    2. Seven Dhatus (7 tissues)
    3. Malas (Impurities) - their importance in maintenance of health and in treatment of diseases.
  5. Swastha vritha-medical treatment of healthy person:preventive measures-daily regimen-seasonal regimen for both physical and mental well being.
  6. Dravyaguna-(Ayurvedic pharmacology-properties of drugs(medicinal) & their mode of action.
  7. Diagnosis in Ayurveda-principles and methods.
  8. Study of the types of constitutions(prakruthi)-vata-pitta and kapha and mixed constitutions-their importance in both health, prognosis and therpy.
  9. Major therapeutic methods. general treatment for alleviation in uncomplicated diseases-panchakarma-(five therapeutic measures)-meaning-importance and application.
